I recently went to the Selina’s food tasting which was the pre-launch of a new store that will be opening in Greenside. Selina’s was founded by Mmabatho Mtimkulu. It’s all about bringing fresh, organic farm produce to Johannesburg, and even straight to your doorstep. I’m so excited to be sharing this with you as I love supporting young South African women doing amazing things! It’s no secret that i’m a major foodie so being able to taste the organic produce before the store launches was an honour.
Mmabatho’s background is in marketing, as well as being involved in Amantle Farm which is her family’s farm in the North West. The idea to bring organic farm produce and poultry to Johannesburg is inspired by her belief in “living your best life” right down to what we put into our bodies. The fruit and vegetables we buy from grocery stores are often genetically modified and covered in pesticides and that’s where the key takeout comes in. Organic produce is naturally grown making it 10x healthier. I’m no poster girl for organic living, but there really is something to it.
The Selina’s food tasting was intimate, great for networking! I met the creator of the most delicIous Artisan Granola from Local Village who sells her products at local farmer’s markets. We also were entertained by a singer named Nomsa Hadebe, and a poet named Nokwanda Zakiyyah Shabangu who were both so talented!
Now, let’s talk food!
There was a variety of things to try like fresh green smoothies, artisan granola, spinach, chicken, sweet potato, beetroot and the best butternut soup i’ve ever tasted (I’m not just saying that). As much as I love all the bad stuff I am trying to make healthier choices so I’ll definitely pop into Selina’s when it opens and I would recommend you give it a try as well.
Selina’s will be opening soon.
