Passion fruit caipirinha

Passion fruit caipirinha

Have some fruit and a bit of rum laying around? Whip up a cocktail. I absolutely love cocktails. What is there not to love? Amazing flavours are combined to create a bit of heaven, with a little extra kick. My love for cocktails has prompted me to go on a journey of discovery to find the best variations of cocktails I can find. I’ve called this little section of my blog ‘cocktail diaries’ and I definitely had to kick it off with my all-time favourite- A Caipirinha (can I get a “yum yum in my tum tum”??

Passionfruit Caipirinha

You can just imagine my delight when I opened the Doppio Zero menu and saw a passion fruit caipirinha. I’ve tried the original caipirinha time and time again but this was a new one for me. The word “caipirinha” might be unfamiliar to some but it is Brazil’s national cocktail made with cachaça (rum), sugar and lime. It is also popularly consumed in South Africa at  Lusito Land which began as a festival that celebrated the Portuguese tradition and culture and has evolved into a festival that’s celebrated by various cultures.

Grandadilla caipirinha

Have you tried to expand your palette by trying new things? It’s so much fun. You might be someone that prefers to stick to what they know, that’s also okay. Passion fruit or granadilla is one of those effortlessly refreshing fruits that don’t try too hard to please (I might be getting a little poetic about fruit here, forgive the writer in me haha). There’s a simple list of ingredients for the passion fruit caipirinha: Cuban light Rum muddled with fresh lime wedges & passion fruit puree’, served short over crushed ice.

Brrrr, I hate winter!  It’s quite cold on my side of the world right now so I doubt I’ll be having another one anytime soon. This drink is packed with ice which makes for a perfect spring or summer time drink, next to the beach perhaps. Side note: I’m so ready for summer. Is anybody with me?
