One of the most exciting events of the year has arrived: New York City Fashion Week 2016, eek! Is anyone else as excited as I am to see what the designers have in store this season? The event kicked off on the 10th of February and ends on the 18th, a few days of fashion heaven.  Every show brings us something new to feast our eyes on and pockets too, perhaps. Creativity and innovation play a major role in making sure Fashion Week is a success because who wants to see boring, out-dated pieces from way back then? Not me! It’s a fairly new year with new trends that I’m keeping my eyes on, with or without a backstage pass because hey, I’m on the other side of the world right now.

What I’m expecting to see:

NYFW week brings with it an array of fashion designers, celebrities and everyone in between. One of the people I’m really looking forward to is Kanye West and season 3 of his Yeezy line. I might love it or hate it; it’s always a gamble with his out-of-the-box ideas. Yes, he’s putting twars (twitter wars) and his album name changes aside. I’m hoping for a Kim Kardashian appearance, yes please!

Rihanna never fails to bring us something fresh and this time she’s teaming up with Puma.  With a new album being released and now NYFW, where does she find the time to do it all? Riri must be some type of superhuman, totes loves her! I predict nothing but fierce, unconventional magic from her show on 12 February.

Now if you know anything about fashion, you know Alexander Wang who is one of my favourite designers in the world.  Wang has been known to have celebrities showcase his work and he has done it again with a short video and images which already have their own Instagram account features the likes of Travi$ Scott, Vic Mensa, Makonnen  and Cindy Crawford’s daughter Kaia Gerber.

My favourites on the runway are Gigi and Bella Hadid, as well as Kendall Jenner because have you seen them?? Sexy and relatable.

Trend forecast:

  1. 90’s kids

90’s fashion is back with a BANG! Chokers are increasingly becoming popular and it’s one of the trends I wish would die and never return. I am no of fan of chokers, I just feel like they cut your neck and are unflattering but hey, some love them.  Just like chokers, cool girls used to turn to Daryl Kerrigan for other 90’s trendy items such as boot-leg pants and he is set to make a comeback this year with a denim collection for Madewell. This might be a good time to dig out some classics while you listen to TLC in the background.

  1. Wearable tech

Technology has formed a part of our everyday lives and with this years “Manus x Machina,” theme at the Met Gala, fashions relationship to all things handmade (manus) and high-tech (machine) will be explored.  A new language of fashion art has been created and used by designers which includes 3-D printing, circular knitting, laser-cutting.  We live in the time of integration so it’s about time technology makes its way to the world of fashion.

One thing is for sure, NYFW won’t be short of entertainment. Other designers due to show their work include Anna Sui, Ralph Lauren and Vera Wang.  If you’re on that side of the world and interested in getting tickets to NYFW, Eventbrite, the largest self-service ticketing platform in the world is the place to go. Not only can you get tickets from Eventbrite for the hottest events, but you can also explore their event planning and management software that allows you to post an event online, sell and track ticket sales and registrations.
